Bonaire
Bonaire is a beautiful island with a wonderful climate. From our first visit we were in love with the relaxed atmosphere, the beautiful but rugged nature and of course on the enchanting green blue sea. After several vacations with our two sons (8 and 14 years) we decided to buy a home, so that we would haveour own piece of paradise. We enjoy a fantastic holiday every year. We relax on the porch, while our sons regularly take a dip in the refreshing swimming pool. Every day we visit other beaches for diving, snorkeling, or swimming. In the evening, we walk to the promenade on the pier to take a drink or to eat in the cosy restaurants.
Bonaire is small but offers much variation. You can enjoy beautiful nature tours to the Lake with its flamingos or Washington Slagbaai, the nature reserve. On the East side is the wild coast which is quite impressive and in huge contrast to the quiet Bay in the West of the island and Klein Bonaire.
Bonaire is world's number 1 when it comes to diving and snorkeling locations. Everywhere you can enter the water and go to the amazing underwater world to explore. Also for windsurfing location and to kite, Bonaire is a favorite destination. An azure Bay , very shallow and always a powerful wind are ideal for all levels.
But you can also go kayaking in the mangrove and horse riding in the sea. There is a butterfly garden and a large sanctuary for donkeys. There are many hiking paths and mountain bike trails. So you can relax and be active on Bonaire, an ideal combination. There are many boat tours offered but you can also hire a boat. Further, Bonaire is a much visited island by bird watchers.
The population is generally friendly and speaks Dutch and English. There are many supermarkets with a large assortment of Dutch products. The tap water is safe to drink.
Bonaire is ideal for relaxing, nature lovers and of course water sports. There are many cosy bars, but there are definitely no crowded beaches. Relax and enjoy all that Bonaire has to offer. For us it is Divers Paradise!!
